The Fishers

One of the highlights of this year for me has been playing on a girl's soccer team here at my school. Although none of us had ever played formally before, it was incredible to see how much we improved during the women's tournament. There were six teams in all, and I have to say that my team was very special because we grew very close to one another, spending time having hang-outs, dinners, sleepovers besides the training. Our team ended up winning second place which was a huge honor for girls who had never played before! Here in Latin America soccer can become very competitive. As a team we tried to honor God by praying together and maintaining a humble attitude. One thing that I loved was that we would always hug the opposing team at the end of the game - many times after we had lost! I think the biggest thing I learned was that friendships and our testimony is much more important than winning. However, hard training and effort reaps a better team! I am thankful for this first experience for me. I am thankful for the new friendships and the acquired soccer techniques that I learned. And I hope to have another opportunity to play on a team in the near future!
P.S. We called our team the "Fishers" because one of the girls was trying to say something in English and it came out like fishers.

  1. I like the name of your soccer team. It could have another meaning... Fishers of Men! :-)
